The Achieved Pursuit of Creative Superiority

Well we did it! With 1 minute and 30 seconds remaining TurnStyle Films successfully turned in our Piece for the 48hr Film Festival. It was a challenge but I think we created something that we all can be extremely proud of. Our Crew was amazing, our actors couldn’t have been better and the pizza was decent as always. The group busted out what could be our best short film yet in under 48hrs with almost no snags. It was a long shoot day with a wrap time of about 3:30am. I can’t wait to be able to be able to put it out to the public but due to festival rules, you have to either come see it Wednesday night at 7PM at the Cedar Lee Theatre or be patient! This time guys we achieved Creative Superiority!

All I can really say before the chaos begins is that I hope our genre isn’t awful! Best of luck to all the teams.

TUFF shoot not so tough after all.

We have submitted our piece for the Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF) it was a fun experience minus that one guy [please refer to last post] and I’d like to talk about the challenges we faced as a crew but it’s pretty amazing how few problems pop up when you’re working with a group of talented and passionate people. We focused on using street light as the main source of lighting in the piece giving it lots of contrast and heavy shadowing, our cinematographer [ Yoshi Andrego] did an amazing job with what he was given. Jon Nix directed the film with Ralph Miller as assistant director. Kayla Muller was our extremely talented Production Assistant which is such a lesser title than she deserves. I wrote the piece.

Please enjoy.

Why Are You Touching My Stuff?

If there is one thing more annoying than constructive criticism from people who have no understanding of what you do, it would have to be the general public’s fascination with cameras. Pull out a camera anywhere and I guarantee someone will instantly start making an ass of themselves. The production group I work with, Turnstyle Films, was quietly shooting a short for the Toronto Urban Film Festival on Wednesday night when a lovely spectator decided it was absolutely necessary that he butt into our shoot. The second he saw the camera he needed to know what we were shooting who it was for and try to impress us by doing pull ups on the rickety scaffolding we were standing near. What makes the average person think they need to put on a show when a camera is on? Because, hypothetically if we had the power to show the world this video footage, you now will be known to everyone as that guy who can do pull ups on camera, what an achievement, I’m glad I preserved this on film forever, And obviously since you have just made cinema history you probably have the right to start playing with my really expensive equipment. Look, all I’m trying to get across is that the saying goes “curiosity killed that cat” and you’re not a cat so your curiosity is only going to get you punched in the face. Unless, you can walk up to a production group and instantly prove you’re either the next P.T. Anderson, or Daniel Day Lewis, Your asinine antics will only make you look as such… So why are you touching my stuff?
